Help Us Launch Our First Mission

Charleston Honor Flight is just getting off the ground in Charleston SC, and volunteers are at the heart of making our first flight possible. Before we can send veterans on a life-changing trip to Washington, D.C., we need a dedicated community of people willing to step in, pitch in, and help build this mission from the ground up. Whether you have a few hours or want to be deeply involved, there’s a place for you here.

Ways to Volunteer

1. Help Raise Funds for the First Flight

Our inaugural mission depends entirely on community support.

Volunteers can assist by:

  • Connecting us with potential donors and sponsors
  • Helping organize fundraising events
  • Sharing our mission within their networks
  • Supporting online campaigns and outreach
  • Identifying grant opportunities and/or completing grant applications

If you’re passionate about making things happen, this is one of the most impactful ways to get involved right now.

2. Help Identify and Recruit Veterans

We want to ensure that local veterans—especially those who may not actively seek out opportunities—know this program exists.

Volunteers can:

  • Help spread the word throughout the Lowcountry
  • Connect with veteran groups, community organizations, and families
  • Assist with outreach efforts and applications

Your efforts will help ensure that the veterans who deserve this experience are part of our very first flight.

3. Serve as a Guardian

Guardians play a vital role in the Honor Flight experience. Each veteran is paired with a trained volunteer who provides support, assistance, and companionship throughout the day.

Guardian responsibilities include:

  • Traveling alongside a veteran during the trip
  • Assisting with mobility and logistics as needed
  • Sharing in the experience and ensuring the veteran’s comfort

As we prepare for our first mission, we are beginning to identify individuals who may serve in this important role once flights begin.

4. Lend a Hand Wherever It’s Needed

Launching a new Honor Flight program takes a team effort, and there are many ways to help.

We need volunteers who are willing to:

  • Assist with event planning and coordination
  • Help with communications and outreach
  • Support send-off and welcome-home celebrations
  • Take on behind-the-scenes tasks that keep everything moving
  • Assist with media relations and PR

If you’re flexible and ready to jump in, we’ll find a place where you can make a difference.
